Statement from Presidents Jimmy Carter and Gerald R. Ford on the Passage of HR 3295
Jimmy Carter and Gerald R. Ford | National Commission on Federal Election Reform

We are gratified by the passage of the Help America Vote Act in the House of Representatives today. It is an important step on the road to the much-needed reform of Americas elections. We wish to thank Chairman Bob Ney (R-OH) and Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-MD) for crafting a bill that is bipartisan, innovative, and practical. The overwhelming support of members from both sides of the aisle makes us hopeful that election reform can pass the Senate and be signed by the President early next year. As we engage in a battle for freedom abroad, we are proud that the House of Representatives demonstrated its commitment to improving our democratic processes here at home.
