U.S. Voting-Rights Suit to Focus On Language Issues, Voting Lists

Nicholas Kulish and Kelly K. Spors | Wall Street Journal

EXCERPT

The Bush administration sent letters this month to officials in Miami-Dade County and Osceola County, alleging Voting Rights Act violations during the 2000 election. In both instances, the government cites a failure to provide adequate assistance to non-English-speaking voters, in Miami for its Creole-speaking Haitian population and in Osceola for its Spanish-speaking Latinos.
