Saturday, January 19, was a historic day. For the first time in American history, Latinos had a major voice in picking the presidential nominees. For the first time, the state of Nevada held an early and therefore influential caucus. TCF's Democracy Fellow, Tova Andrea Wang, traveled to the state to provide first-hand accounts of the efforts there to reach out to the Latino community and get them to participate by the Democratic Party, the unions, and outside organizations. My day started with a hotel housekeeper directing me to the right place to enter the caucus site, a ballroom at the Luxor. She spoke little English. I asked her if she was going to caucus today.

Entering the caucus site in the Egyptian Ballroom at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, the first thing I noticed was a flyer put out by the Nevada State Democratic Party on all the sign-in tables. It said “Know Your Caucus Rights.” Yet I quickly ascertained that the flyer really should have been called “Know Your Caucus Limitations.”
