Task Forces

Three task forces have been created to support the work of the Commission. These task forces draw on some of the best minds in America, engaging those who have great practical experience as well as outstanding scholars from the separate disciplines of political science, law, and history. Each task force will provide information and resource material to aid the fact finding and deliberation process of the Commission.

Election Administration
Coordinator: David King, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University

The task force on election administration will consider new technology and best practices, as well as the relationship between election processes and effective citizen participation.

Federal Election System
Coordinator: John Mark Hansen, Department of Political Science, University of Chicago

The task force on the federal election system will consider the historical background of our institutions, the evolution of the right to vote, past experiences with reform, and options for structural change.

Legal Issues
Coordinator: Daniel Ortiz, University of Virginia School of Law

The task force on constitutional and federal election law issues will consider equal protection questions, the federal-state relationship, and the implementation and enforcement of existing laws relevant to federal election reform.
